Congratulations to Robert and Sandy Shindleman on being chosen to receive the B’nai Brith Canada Award of Merit for 2011.

The Shindleman brothers learned business ethics and the importance of supporting your community from their late father, Eddie Shindleman, who was a pillar of the community in Portage La Prairie. Eddie Shindleman was a successful business owner, farmer and cattle dealer.
“Although he never wrote it down, our father believed that you succeed in business by helping others succeed in their endeavours,” says Sandy Shindleman, the founder and president of Shindico. “That has become our company’s mission statement. We watched how he treated the people he dealt with - the people who sold him cattle and chickens, furs and scrap metal and Seneca root. And we learned that how you treat people is the key to success.”
The Shindleman Aquatic Centre opened in Sandy’s home town of Portage la Prairie in 2010. The Aquatic Centre is part of the community’s new $48 million, 300,000 square foot PCU sports complex. The Shindleman family’s substantial contribution to the complex (the leisure pool includes six 25 metre swim lanes, a lazy river, tots pool area, zero beach and ramp entry, 212 ft. waterslide and 14 person whirlpool) and is typical of the generosity of Sandy and Robert Shindleman.
Sandy Shindleman founded Shindico in 1975. Over the years, the company has developed close to 100 shopping centres and power centres (encompassing over seven million square feet of development with two million square feet in advanced planning stages) throughout southern Manitoba, in northwestern Ontario and in Saskatchewan. The company also manages real estate assets for pension funds.
Sandy Shindleman holds the CCIM (CCIM Institute), SIOR (Society of Industrial and Office Realtors), CIPS (Certified International Property Specialist) and MRICS (Member, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) designations and is a member of ARES (American Real Estate Society). Since 1980, he has been a senior instructor for the CCIM Institute and is Chair of the Faculty Committee and Chair of the Education Foundation. In October, 2010 he was recognized with a 30 year CCIM Service Award. Sandy was elected to the CCIM Board of Directors for a 3 year term. He has traveled throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia on behalf of the CCIM Institute.
